Karthik gets able support from cinematographer Gopi Amarnath, who provides the necessary toppings to the pizza. Just when you think “Ah, I know what is coming”, he springs a surprise on you. He keeps the red herrings coming at regular intervals, never allowing the audience to guess what he has in store for them. Karthik, who has written the story and screenplay too, displays a strong control of the medium and gives abundant display of his narrative skills. If he maintains the quality of his menu and future offerings, Karthik, who gained much praise for his short films, is sure to become one of Kollywood’s top directors. Movie Review: At a time when lavishly mounted movies are biting the dust, Karthik Subbaraj serves up a sumptuous delight with his very first feature film, made on a budget possibly less than four times that of a big star’s movie. But during a routine delivery one day, the pizza crumbles… They decide to marry and save up for a big bash later. One day, Anu announces that she is pregnant and he is faced with a dilemma. Perhaps emboldened by the success of his earlier venture 'Attakaththi'.īut at the same time, 'Pizza' could also end up as a multiplex movie, catering to the taste of the so-called A-centre audience alone.Synopsis: Michael (Vijay Sethupathy) lives with girlfriend Anu (Ramya Nambeesan) and works as a deliveryman at a pizzeria. Producer C V Kumar deserves a pat for coming up with a quality product in such a modest budget. Thankfully, a couple of songs in the form of mobile ring tones are situation-based, which don't affect the flow of the movie. The encounters between Michael and the inmates of the haunted house are sure to make you bite your nails. There are scenes that sends chill down the spine- especially the one at the bedroom in the house where Michael goes after delivering the pizza. One of the high points of the movie is splendid background score by Santosh Narayanan. The rest is all but a chain of events that leads to an unexpected climax.
There he gets struck in the house and comes across creepy moments. When things go smooth, Michael's life takes a turn when he goes to deliver pizza at a posh bungalow. In the meantime, unexpected pregnancy of Anu forces Michael to marry her. The latter has a passion to pen a story on spirits and ghosts. Michael (Vijay Sethupathy) is a pizza delivery boy, who stays with Anu (Ramya Nambeesan). Loaded with enough suspense elements, the movie is a sure a worthy watch with a pack of popcorn.
It is a simple story and what sustains the interest is the way it has been narrated.
Also in the cast are Naren, Pooja, Jaykumar and Veera Sethuraman. She gives right expressions and adds pep to the proceedings. After a comical role in 'Naduvula Konjam Pakkathai Kanom', a role with negative shades in 'Sundarapandian', now he plays a role that combines all in one. Vijay Sethupathy is having a gala time in Kollywood, one can say. With right toppings in the form of a taut screenplay, deft camera work, eerie sound effects and nice background score, the movie manages to leave a mark. If the success of a thriller lies in bringing the film-goer to the edge of the seat, 'Pizza' does it.
